This July I wanted to spotlight a book that I love, and one that I Just Couldn't Put Down!!! The Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby's First Year is that exact book for me right now. As a new Mommy.... again, I am always wondering when should my lil guy be doing this, is he behind on that..... wait he shouldn't be even trying this yet.... right?! Basically I am like any other Mom out there with questions, and just to be reminded of all the milestones baby's go through as they grow this first year. I'm sure all Moms out there know when you have a question about your baby you want an answer... fast, and that is why this book hasn't been put down.
Your Baby's First Year is the 2nd book in a wonderful and informative series from Rallie McAllister, MD, MPH and Jennifer Bright Reich. {If you would like to learn more about the first book The Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth visit, check out my review.} They have compiled a ton of useful tips (over 900!!!) in a unique way by asking 70 Doctors who are also Moms for their advice and opinions on a Baby's First Year. They then put together this must have book for new Moms.
The book begins with the Birth of your baby and goes all the way through to celebrating their first birthday.
Just few of the topics covered are -
- Breastfeeding
- Bottle Feeding
- Wearing Your Baby
- Treating a Fever
- Safety Taking Your Baby Swimming
- Baby Proofing
- Learning To Walk and much, much more!
Every chapter in this book is chocked full of great advice about what babies may be doing that month. They cover the basics and more including short sidebar blurbs featuring When to Call Your Doctor, Recommended Products and MomMy Time for each month. Plus super helpful information about other issues like Keeping Up with Housework (p.244) and Saving Money on Baby Things, which you know I am all over (p.422&423)! If you have a specific issue you want to read about, you are able to look in the index, and find out exactly what pages to look at for advice.
My son rolling over brings me to another great point they stress through out this book which is every baby is different! I love that they don't say your little one better be doing this right now. It's a guide for your new addition's first year not a baby instruction manual that makes you feel like your new baby may be lacking. Some of the doctors even mention dealing with issues different ways. They are all Moms finding out and sharing what works for them.
All of these tidbits of personal knowledge from doctors, no less, gives you such an insight into not only what to expect from your growing little one but how these professionals deal with the same issues we Moms face everyday. They weren't afraid to say things like, I wasn't sure how to deal, and asked my doctor and I'm a doctor! The Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby's First Year is a very down to earth, super easy to read book loaded with information that if you are like me, you won't be able to put it down your Baby's First Year.
