The Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth ~ Review

Since first finding out I was expecting our third baby, I have heard more times than I can count, "I can't believe you are starting over".  My "Baby" turned six in October, and I almost feel like I am preggers for the first time all over again with so much time between them. This pregnancy has not been like either one of my other two, and I was looking for some up to date reading material for a refresher course. Basically, I was in desperate need of advice and tips. Thank goodness I received The Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth to review!

The Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth is just jammed pack full of advice and helpful tidbits about what you are going through as a pregnant soon to be mommy. This book includes forty-three chapters. One chapter for each week of your pregnancy, and a couple extra with information for after your baby is born.

Each chapter has a simple to follow outline. The first part which is divided into 3 sections always starting with information about you and your baby. The first section includes information about "Your Baby's Size". This has honestly been one of my favorite little sections that I look forward to checking out each week. Right now at week 15 my baby should be about 4 to 4 1/2 inches or about the size of a bocci ball.

The second part of this section is "Your Baby's Latest Developments". This section give you details into what it is going on under that growing belly, and let's you know what new exciting things your lil one is up to. One cool thing for this week (15), is my little one should be where he/she can make a fist or even suck their thumb.

The final part of this section is titled "Your Latest Developments". This is where you can read information on what and how you may be feeling and the changes happening to your body. Which as anyone who has been pregnant will know seems like everything is going crazy, but The Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth breaks it down for you. This has helped me make sense of all the changes and emotions that seem to throw me for a loop on nearly a daily basis!

The rest of each weekly chapter has the most helpful tips and advice from Moms who are also Doctors, which I have found very interesting. I really loved reading what each professional lady had to say, and even though some of them seem to contradict each other it was just what I was needing to read. It has helped me feel like I can do this after so much time since my last pregnancy. No one's pregnancy is the same, and what worked for one Mom may not be the best way to deal with that particular issue for someone else. I love that this book seems to be able to fit anyone no matter their age or stage in life.

Some of the topics covered throughout the chapters with the various doctor's tips and advice are Coping with Leg, Hip, and Pelvic Pain, Coping with Food Aversions, Enlisting Help, Details on various procedures that some of us pregnant Moms may need to take, back pain, buying baby clothes and lots more. With over 60 Doctors who are also mothers contributing to this informative book there is a ton of great information loaded into each topic.

This book also includes informative sidebar sections titled When To Call Your Doctor or Midwife, a Mommy MD Guide-Recommended Product, and MomMy Time. These are all just wonderful and informative bonus sections to read within the chapters.

I personally have found this book to be the perfect reading material to help me week by week. If you know someone who is expecting or if you are yourself, I would definitely recommend The Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth. It is a great read, and gave this Mommy to be the confidence she needed to be able to move forward and feel like I can do this.... again.
