We always talk about things that are dangerous. She usually responds with like to gabba Gabba...haha. but seriously we sit her down and explain she could get very hurt when playing by the fireplace and table. Our two year old now tries to tell our 10 month old about dangerous things.
ReplyDeleteWe make sure and discuss things about safety, and I have taught my children a made up song so that they will always know their address, phone number, city, state :)
ReplyDeletewe talk about being safe by trying to explain in kid terms. we emphasize looking both ways before going into the road, etc.
ReplyDeletemy youngest is only 2 but we talk to him about things like staying with a grown up, not talking to people he doesn't know. little things here and there like looking left right left when we cross the street. I try to make it fun.
ReplyDeleteAlways tell my son to ask for permission so I always know where he is at or who he's playing with
ReplyDeleteI tell my son to always be where I can see you...don't wander off. We practice scenarios that strangers might say and what they should do. Strangers aren't always creepy looking characters so I try to prepare them in case they are ever in that situation.
ReplyDeleteI have my three year old grand daughter Mon- Fri., and we talk about and practice stranger danger daily. We also use the buddy system when we are in crowds and hold hand when crossing the street or in parking lots. I teach her that we look with our eyes and not with our hands, she is so interested in everything at this age. I let her help me in the kitchen and we make sure our hands are washed before we begin, and practice kitchen safety when around the stove. She is good at asking before doing which helps keep her safe also. She has such a kind heart that she watches out for other children also. I feel blessed that I am able to be such a big part of her life, and really, she is a big part of my life.
ReplyDeleteMy children are very young so we are not really at this stage yet but I have explained to my four year old that he must always ask Mummy before doing anything.
ReplyDeleteMake sure to always ask before doing something new
ReplyDeleteMy kids know not to talk to people they do not know unless mom or dad (or another family member) are there with them. They also know if a stranger approaches them when no one is around, they are to go to a safe place like home or a friend's house and get someone and tell them.

ReplyDeleteI make sure my daughter always stays with me while we are in public and always ask before doing something new.
