Want to take your kids on a trip around the World?!!! Well, that is what this fun Around The World trivia game does with questions and fun cards (World Bank & World Wonder Cards). After receiving the Around The World board game for review, my daughter & I dove right into the box, and started reading & checking out all the colorful game pieces & cards. Around The World not only covers geography, but also language, culture, people & customs from all over the world through trivia questions & fun game play.

What's included in the game box-
  • 1 Die
  • 5 Player Pieces (but up to 20 players can participate by playing on teams)
  • 1 Game Board
  • 5 Global Scorecards
  • 25 World Bank Cards
  • 15 Gems
  • 10 World Wonder Cards (These cards represent 10 Wonders of the World, such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Mt. Everest, &Eiffel Tower. You place a Gem on the World map in the center of the game board when you draw that card.)
  • 200 Category Cards
  • & 48 Score Tokens
To begin game play, you roll to see who goes first. Then the 1st player rolls the dice to start your world travels around the game board. You simply move the number of spaces shown on the dice, and which ever Category you land on pick that card. If you answer the question on the Category Card correctly, place a Score Token on your Global Scorecard for that Category. There are 3 spots for each category {12 spaces in all} & when your card is full..... you win.

The Categories in this trivia game are People & Places, Culture & Customs, Geography, and Language. There are also special spaces on the board for World Bank & World Wonders. My daughter's favorite spaces were the World Bank spots. She loves to read what selfless act she has, in game play, completed to receive a bonus. The Bonus can be adding a Score Token of choice to your Global Scorecard or moving forward a space or two. Each World Bank Card begins with this statement" Thank You For Your Contribution! You've Helped The World In The Following Way" An example of a World Bank good deed from 1 of the cards is "Nice Work! You helped displaced families find refuge in your home city.   Collect a Token of Your Choice and add to your Scorecard"

Most Category Cards not only have a trivia question, but a helpful hint too, which gives more insight into the area covered. For instance, on one Geography card the question is "What is the largest continent?" The hint is - Africa is the 2nd largest. So with this question we not only cover the largest continent, but the 2nd largest as well.

After playing this game, we are learning basic words from various countries, religions from all different places, world currencies, how many languages are spoken in certain countries, what symbols are associated with countries, facts about famous people in world history & much more. Not too mention all of the trivia questions with thought provoking facts. For example, one of the People & Places cards asks, "Can Women vote in every country in the world?" This sparked an in depth conversation about Women's Rights with my daughter. Pretty cool!

Not going to lie here..... I haven't known the answer to quite of few of the questions, but that is one of the cool things about Around The World. You are learning lots of random facts from around the globe. Facts that had us pulling out the encyclopedia's to discover more. Even though the game is geared towards the ages of 8 & up, my 5 year old son has had fun playing with us. Since there are multiple choice & true or false mixed in with all the questions, he likes to play with me on a team. His first question was a multiple choice Geography Card asking, "What is the shape of Italy said to resemble? A.Sock B. Boot C. Hand. His total excitement over guessing Boot correctly was just adorable.

If I were to rate this game on a 1-10 scale I would give it a 9.9. It's fun & educational. The only thing I would have liked to see was a pronunciation guide beside certain foreign words for some of the language questions. It just would have made those trivia facts easier to read. {Especially for younger kiddos} Overall though, we have most definitely loved playing & learning with Around The World. Thanks Bunches for helping me keep learning fun, Around The World!!!! We will be playing this trivia game for the globally-minded for many years. =)

  9. I have a Bachelor of Science in Geography (it's a worthless degree, I highly discourage anyone from going into this major unless they just want to take the classes for fun) so my favorite part of this game is that it teaches kids about the world and where specific countries are located.

  15. My favorite part is that there are hints. My kids don't know a lot of geography so I think they would be frustrated without help.
