How to Survive Homeschooling Without a Substitute Teacher

~More of a personal post....venting just a little bit... about how I'm am surviving this week without a Substitute Teacher.

These last two weeks have been a bit of a trial for me as a Mommy and as an Educator to my kiddos. Last week my son was diagnosed with pneumonia, and my daughter also had a pretty severe cold. We took a couple sick days at the end of the week, and I adjusted our lesson plans to make up the work this week.

Well, as I am sure many of you Moms out there know will happen, now the "nurse" has caught the bug... yep that's me! I have been super sick since Monday. Trying to keep up with my son's meds and breathing treatments, laundry, and everyday chores.... not to mention meals. Feeling ready to collapse over here. Then there's the incredible pressure of keeping up with their schooling, which we were already a few days behind on.

These are the days where a Homeschooling Mommy just wants to scream, cry or like I did yesterday....both! I caught myself thinking.... where's a substitute teacher when you need one? It occurred to me after I had that breakdown {that's how it always happens isn't?}.... I need to adjust my own lesson plans and expectations of myself.

I am not a superwoman over here.... just a regular Mom who is sick. My kids can still learn and explore while Mommy is trying to feel better.. {hopefully very quickly because this cold is for the birds... just saying}. So today we will be playing more learning games, and spending quite a bit of time reading together.

True, we will have lessons to make up in certain subjects, but I finally came to the realization just because I'm not at 100% doesn't mean I am failing them. They are still going to be learning, since some of our games teach quite a few skills that are important. Respecting others, taking turns, good sportsmanship, and following directions. Then depending on which game I pull out subjects {Math Skills, Geography, Reading,...to name a few} are going to be covered in a fun way.

Even though these last two school weeks have not been ideal, starting to feel like I can make it..... even without a substitute Teacher having my back. Fingers crossed this mini plague leaves our house with a quickness, and we are all back to being our normal selves soon. In the meantime....Would love to hear how some of you Homeschooling Moms or really any stay at home Moms cope when you are feeling under the weather? Any suggestions, or fun learning games you would recommend to have on hand for times like this would be appreciated.

Thanks for letting me vent a little to all of you guys. =)

    1. Thank you April. I will have to check out the PBS site... my son is preschool/kindergarten age. That would probably be a great one for him. =)

  2. I'm not a mom, but I've been sick while having my nieces and nephews. Luckily they are at the age where they can entertain themselves. I've noticed when I'm sick they don't fight as much....BONUS!!!!

  3. I hope you are feeling better!

It has to be tough having sick kids, then getting sick yourself and managing all the things a Mom does plus homeschooling on top of that.

    1. I taught my child at home for a while. It was grueling when I was sick.
