When researching how to cloth diaper and all the many modern options available, I never even considered that most baby clothing especially jeans are now made to fit over the tiny disposable diapers. Finding jeans for our little guy that fit over his fluffy cloth diapers has been very frustrating to say the least. Clothes we saved back from our older son "just in case" barely fit. Most just look funny with not much room in the bum area, and they have him sporting that plumber look with the diaper poking out of the back even when he isn't bent over because of the elastic top.

Snow, Ice, Sleet, Slick Roads, and Shoveling Snow. It's just another fun beginning to March in the Midwest. Brrr! I am so ready for sunshine, spring, and blooming flowers. Thankfully the Southwest has sent some warm and delicious comfort to the Midwest, and it is just want we needed. 

Southwest Beverages offers Sippity, a dry mix cocoa, and Kemosabe gourmet coffee, also a dry mix. Both of these delicious hot beverage mixes are also available in a Lite variety. The mixes have been perfected with high quality ingredients from American suppliers. All of their products are proudly made in the US, and that is just one of the reasons this company is wonderful in my eyes. Another very important fact to mention about these two crave worthy hot beverages is that they are 100% Gluten Free and 99.9% Caffeine Free. 

How To Get Rid Of The Ammonia Smell In Cloth Diapers ~ Rockin Green Funk Rock Review

My cloth diapering wash routine hasn't change much over the last several months. We found a laundry detergent that works for our family, Rockin' Green, and haven't change it since that first load. Up until recently I wasn't even sure why others had problems like stink and ammonia build up in their cloth diapers. Then it happened to us! Oh my... that odor! Why had our precious fluff turned on me? What had changed? Why did our son's cloth diapers suddenly have such an overwhelming ammonia smell that had my eyes burning?

Well Rockin' Green eco-friendly cleaning products came to our rescue with Funk Rock their all natural ammonia bouncer for laundry. This powder is SLS, phosphate, soap, and enzyme free. The 16 oz. package I received contains enough powder to use in up to 30 loads of laundry. While Funk Rock is recommended as a great way to help with cloth diapers, you can also use this product for pet or potty training laundry. I want to mention is that it is made in the USA too. 

Now back to how my ammonia problem began in the first place. Need to be honest with you and myself here. I was becoming lazy with washing, and had started going four or sometimes, I am ashamed to admit, more days before washing. Although in my defense the time I went six days ( yes, 6! That's not a typo) we were snowed in at my parent's home, so I came home to some stinky laundry. Another factor is our baby is growing up and not just on breast milk anymore at 11 months. He is now eating a wide variety of foods. Our son will also have watered down juice on occasion as a treat. The point... It was MY fault for not staying on top of the laundry, and that is why we had to deal with this eye watering, take your breath away, smelly ammonia problem.

I began using Funk Rock ammonia bouncer right away by doing a soak, as suggested on their package, for about one hour. We have a top loading washer, so I just added my diapers and the recommended 4 tablespoons of Funk Rock as the basin was filling. Rockin' Green recommends no more than 20 diapers at one time when using Funk Rock, which is almost how many we go through in 3 days. Next I simply paused the rinse cycle after it was done filling and walked away with a timer set for myself to go back to restart it. 

After my timer let me know the cloth diapers had finished their one hour Funk Rock soak, I simply continued with my normal wash routine. First finished that pre-rinse cycle, then did a hot wash on a heavy duty cycle with enough Rockin' Green Laundry Detergent for a large load (3 tablespoons), and finally the last extra rinse. I could tell a difference as soon as I pulled the inserts from our dryer. They didn't have a not quite clean smell, and when our son let it flow in that first clean diaper, my eyes weren't burning. Funk Rock as a pre-treater works on our cloth diapers. The ammonia odor is gone, and this Mommy right here is thrilled.

Now to maintain funk free fluff, first of all, not going to allow myself to go more than three days between washes. The second thing is on wash day I have added an extra very simple step to our wash routine, we put one tablespoon of Funk Rock in that first pre-rinse cycle. Then I continue with my original wash routine. We have not had another issue with any eye watering ammonia stink since, and my adorable cloth diapers and I are friends again. So happy because I truly love the fluff! Rockin Green's Funk Rock all natural ammonia bouncer does the job, and I definitely recommend giving it a try if your cloth diapers have an ammonia odor.

Comparison of GroVia Hybrid Cloth Diaper Soakers ~ Review

From the beginning of our cloth diapering journey last May, hybrid cloth diaper covers and inserts have been a part of our stash. For us they just work well around the house during the day, and we especially like to use them while visiting family and traveling. The cloth diaper covers and inserts just take up less space in a diaper bag. I am able to over pack, which I tend to do, and still have room in the bag for other items.

While cloth wipes and a diaper pail liner may not be a necessity to begin cloth diapering your little one, we soon realized they sure would make our life easier and help our budget. On December 6th, my kids and I attended the Holiday Toyland event at my local Wal-Mart. We were able to be "Official Toy Testers" and take an up close look at some of the hottest toys for the 2014 Holiday. (Make sure to check out the store dates and times because different areas will be having their Holiday Toyland Events this weekend (12/12 & 12/13), and you could go check it out!) 


My kids had a blast playing with a few toys, and seeing some of the toys in action and demonstrated for us. The worker Then when I told them we were going to go ahead and bring home Crayola Paint Maker, they were super excited! 

The Crayola Paint Maker is right on point with my older two children's interests. They have skills, when it comes to art, that I can only dream about since the artsy gene skipped right over me. They think being able to make their own paint at home is very cool.

Breakouts. Acne. Pimples. Those are three words to describe what stressed me out when I was a young teenager. Thankfully my mom introduced me to a facial routine early, and saved me from a lot of embarrassment and self-esteem worries. I am happy to be able to do the exact same for my tween daughter. I don't believe that skin issues should be a rite of passage into the teen years. They come with the territory, but I have given our daughter Clearasil Hydra-Blast Oil-Free Face Wash which can reduce breakouts by 85% in about four weeks, to help keep her skin clear. 

Even though Clearasil Hydra-Blast Oil-Free Face Wash is a gentle cleanser that isn't supposed to dry out her skin, she has very sensitive skin that is prone to dry patches during the cooler months, but will still be oily in the T-Zone area. We decided from the beginning that she would use it ever other day to see how her skin reacted, and if we could notice a reduction in her breakouts.

Using the Hydra-Blast Oil-Free Face Wash is actually super simple, and after just reading the directions with my eleven year old tween once, she was able to continue without any assistance. After wetting her face, she used almost a quarter sized portion of the face wash by massaging it into her skin. She paid careful attention to apply more to her nose, chin and forehead since these are her problem areas. Last you just rinse the face wash off with warm water. No crazy procedures or multiple steps to the routine, which is perfect for my tween.
