Around our home we like to keep entertainment educational when possible. I just love when we discover a show that is fun, entertaining, and educational. This year for my 2015 Back To School Guide, I was able to check out the new release from PBS KIDS that is all those things I look for in a program wrapped into one!
The Cinderella and Other Fairytale Adventures DVD features five Super Why episodes, and is an adorable program that challenges your kids to think and have fun while reading.
The main character Whyatt takes your children on reading adventures to solve small challenges that his friends from Storybrook village are puzzled by. When answers are needed they "Look In a Book!" Each of these lovable characters join Whyatt at the book club and transform into Super Readers with special abilities to help solve the issue they are facing. His partners are Red RidingHood aka Wonder Red who has Word Power. Pig aka Alpha Pig brings Alphabet Power with him, and Princess Pea aka Princess Presto uses Spelling Power. Then of course there is Whyatt and he is Super Why with the Power to Read. They also help your children stay engaged and actively participating by turning to them to use their special power- the Power to Help during the story.
Each episode on the Cinderella and Other Fairytale Adventures DVD takes your children to a book to find an answer by observing the story play out, helping the story book characters along the way, and even changing the story altogether. While watching the episode your children are on the look out with their Power to Help for all the hidden Super Letters. Once found Super Why inputs them into his Super Duper Computer to give them the Super Story Answer they have been trying to find.
Cinderella and Other Fairytale Adventures DVD features the five episodes listed below, and your children will learn to stop and think to make better decisions, use creative and clever thinking, trust to help their friends believe in them and more. They will also practice the alphabet, letter recognition, phonetics skills, and a huge emphasis is put on the Power of Reading books. Awesome right?!
CINDERELLA AND OTHER FAIRYTALE ADVENTURES is available on DVD starting today, August 11, 2015. The DVD has a run time of approximately 140 minutes and an SRP of $12.99.
Here is a little about each of the five episodes thanks to PBS KIDS. "The CINDERELLA AND OTHER FAIRYTALE ADVENTURES DVD includes the following stories:
“Cinderella: The Prince’s Side of the Story”
Red and Little Boy Blue are playing some music together when Little Boy Blue suddenly disappears! This is just like when Cinderella left the ball without finishing her dance. To solve the mystery, Super Why and his friends soar into Cinderella’s fairytale once again, and this time they talk to the prince!
“Snow White”
The super fun Storybrook Carnival is in town, and Princess Pea is enjoying lots of yummy treats until she gets a terrible tummy ache! When Goldilocks offers her some popcorn, Princess Pea knows she should refuse, but she really wants to eat just a little. The Super Readers fly into the story of Snow White as the wicked queen tempts the fairytale princess with that infamous apple. Will the Super Readers be able to stop Snow White from taking the bait before Snow White ends up with something much worse than a stomachache?
“The Prince and the Pauper”
Whyatt thinks his house is too loud while Princess Pea believes her home is too quiet! Would the friends be better off if they switched places? To look for a solution, Super Why and his friends encounter two friends just as they are about to switch houses. A prince on the farm and a pauper in a castle soon leads to chaos and confusion! Where will everyone be the happiest?
“The Boy Who Cried Wolf”
When Baby Joy says her first words, Whyatt is the only one around who hears her. The problem is that now he can’t convince anyone that she actually talked. The Super Readers fly into the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf to help that boy convince people that his wolf tale is true. Whyatt figures out a strategy for getting his family to believe that what he said – and Baby Joy said – really happened.
“Cinderella”
Red, who’s not a princess, is worried about fitting in at Sleeping Beauty’s princess party. The Super Readers leap into the book of Cinderellato see how she handled her own princess problem. When the clock strikes twelve, Red learns that she doesn’t need the help of a fairy godmother to feel good about herself."
This DVD uses all the fun powers to establish a love of reading while your kids get to help save the day with Super Why and all of the other Super Readers. I love how their powerful tools all relate to reading, and how they really push looking to a book for answers. This has been a fun DVD to watch with my son. He really excels in areas like math and science, but reading has been a hard struggle for him. While watching the stories, I noticed he was really trying to sound out the words, spelling, and calling out answers using that "Power to Help". That is a break through, and I am so excited!
